Our History

The German American Bank Back Story

Back in 1910, our bank opened for business along Main Street in Jasper, Indiana, a town located in the heart of the Ohio Valley region. Business visionaries in the community saw a need and an opportunity. They brought on shareholders and christened the bank name to be German American Bank in honor of the region's rich German-American heritage.

What's in a name?

In our case, it's an emblem of pride inspired in part by the German culture of hard work, attention to detail, honest communication and community.

How are we following through on our founder's promise?

We're driven by the belief that when a community thrives, its people prosper. Our bank uses a unique leadership model that keeps us actively involved in local decision-making and supporting our purpose and values.

How do we demonstrate our mission?

Simply put, by offering strong financial solutions with personalized service and a focus on giving back to our communities. See our efforts in action.

Who are we today?

We’ve grown to become one of the strongest community banks in the Midwest now serving Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Our bank is regarded throughout the country as a premier financial services company with an exceptional community banking model. We're still based in Jasper, IN, - our headquarters remain on that same block along Main Street – and we still follow the same values of the original founders: trust, integrity, lasting relationships, high standards and community focus to help people create brighter futures. We offer a full suite of personal banking, business banking, and wealth management services.
